decorating

When I was seven years old,

my parents redecorated my bedroom.

It had been a gender-neutral yellow since my oldest brother was born.
And since it was absolutely certain
that I would be the only little girl in our family...
the room was officially becoming mine.
All mine.

My parents asked me what color I wanted to paint the walls.
me: "Pink icing."
parents: the color of pink icing?
me: "no, pink icing...
I want to cover the walls
of my new room with pink icing."

Well, I did not get my pink icing walls that day...
but today, I covered everything within arms reach
with shades of pink icing.
And I think I made the seven year-old girl in me
very
very
happy ;)
