Expectation

Someone called me an expectant mother yesterday...it made my day.

My husband and I are expecting...we are expecting a miracle.
We are expecting God to show up and provide the huge tab for our adoption,
we expect mounds of paperwork,
we expect to feel picked on (no one else has to answer essay questions to become parents),
we expect to wait,
we expect to wait some more,
we are expecting a birthmother somewhere out there to find us worthy of raising the child growing within her,
we expect the joy of that call from the social worker telling us we've been selected,
we expect an awkward first meeting with her,
we expect such beaming pride in introducing our sweet newborn to friends and family,
we are expecting lots and lots of handmade baby hats,

we are expecting the grace and strength to parent our child. We expect sorrow, and joy, sweet moments, and frazzled nights of crying. And lots, and lots, and cuddling.

But we are not just expecting...we are expectant.
