There are many traditions for the Holiday Season that I married into; quiche on Christmas eve, knitted stocking from Nathan's Grammy, a certain plaid polyester jacket that somehow finds its way on either my husband or his brother each year, and the Happy Christmas music.
Our first couple of years together, Nathan would mention that every Christmas with his parents they would play "You Gotta Get Up" as loud as possible as a signal that the kids could come down and open presents (this usually happened in the wee hours of the morning...thank goodness we kept with my family's tradition of opening gifts late in the morning after a full night's sleep.)
Our third Christmas together, Nathan was determined to find that song again...so he bought all four volumes of the Happy Christmas albums. And each Christmas since we wake up to the blaring ska stylings of Five Iron Frenzy performing Rich Mullins's You Gotta Get Up. Maybe that's one tradition your family can adopt...sans the polyester jacket.
